I think the hardest part about writing this bio is that I am in a place of both knowing exactly who I am yet still learning new things about myself and my art every day. There’s beauty to be found in the midst of both the certain and uncertain and I think both can exist simultaneously.
Finding the beauty in the midst.
At the end of the day, that is exactly what I do. Capturing the beautiful moments in other’s lives that exist in the midst.
Very simply put: I love what I do, who I do it for, and where I get to do it. The Lord has placed this passion for people and the relationships they form and has blessed me with the ability to document them. Not many people get to say they love their job and feel called to it–but I am lucky enough to be one of them. Born and raised in Pensacola, FL I grew up with my toes in the sand and tanlines for days. I grew up here, I fell in love here, I live here with my husband and our dog Teddy and cat Eggs. I love the Gulf Coast but I also love traveling often for work–anywhere and everywhere.
I couldn’t imagine doing anything other than this: documenting other’s loved ones, businesses, and brands.
The past year of my life has stretched me and grown me and my work in ways I didn’t think possible. I feel as though above all else I have learned the beauty in the simple. The importance of every moment and how precious the time is that we have with those we love. It has made me stronger and more attentive and thus, better at this job for all of you.
RECOGNITION
For the past four years I have been fortunate enough to be voted “Best Photographer” for local Gulf Coast magazine, inweekly’s Best of the Coast awards. In addition to these awards I have had my work featured on the cover of Pensacola Magazine’s annual bridal edition. Most recently, I was asked by British Vogue to be a part of their Spring 2023 Vogue Wedding’s International editorial campaign across April, May, and June.
As long as I can remember I was raised to think creatively. In every way I was lucky to have parents that encouraged each and every creative “passion” of mine. Whether it was devouring books at an alarming rate from a young age, writing endlessly about everything and nothing, falling asleep with a pen in hand, to carrying a camera with me everywhere I went–the “normal” route of academia was never forced upon me.
My mother is an artist in every sense of the word. There is no medium with which she cannot create. I recall being little and admiring her endless creativity, wondering when, if ever, I would grow to be the same; to see things the way in which she did. My time finally did come, but it did not come quickly or all at once. It was developed slowly and carefully although I dove in head first. I get that from my dad.
My dad, a professional fashion and commercial photographer for decades alway secretly hoped I would find a way to follow in his footsteps. He placed a camera in my hands as soon as I could grasp one, but I was stubborn and had no interest in being taught. Although he had begun a different career once I was born in order to travel less and be home more, his unique eye for lighting and composition was somehow passed onto me via osmosis of sorts. He has the ability to see things not simply for what they are, but what they could be. My parents managed to show me the beauty in the mundane all the while the need to work hard and develop skills beyond raw talent.
I have always believed hard work supersedes all things. No amount of accolades, raw talent, or connections can get you where hard work can. I do not simply wish to be an incredible photographer, I work for it, every day. My only competition is myself, I only need to be better than who I was yesterday.
